Piksel is an international event for artists and developers working with Free/Libre and Open Source technologies in artistic practice. Part workshop, part festival, it is organised in Bergen, Norway,and involves participants from more than a dozen countries exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing workshops, performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of FLOSS & art.

08.10.2009 - 10.10.2009 ART+COMMUNICATION 2009: ENERGY 11th International festival for new media culture in Riga will be devoted to ideas and notions of "sustainability". This year festival edition will consist of event-series featuring several inter-connected activities: artists workshop in Aizpute (August 2009), conference and exhibition in Riga (October 2009), NICE Training programme II and On-line festival (December 2009).

Participants of the festival will focus on nowadays such a topical issue – sustainable development. --- Festival programme will feature international conference, exhibition, performances and film programme. The festival issue/catalogue will also be published. Festival events will be streamed online on Internet.

13.08.2009 - 16.08.2009 Symposium for ART AND RENEWABLE TECHNOLOGIES The 4-day symposium gathering together artists, activists, technologists, scientists and researchers, to share their ideas and explorations which deal with renewable energy resources, alternative ecological use of technologies, and other sustainability related issues. --- Themes: bio - solar - open source - myths & legends --- The symposium will take place in artists residency center SERDE in Aizpute, a small town in Kurzeme region of Latvia. Symposium is organised by RIXC, the Center for New Media Culture with the support of Nordic Culture Fund.

15.07.2009 - 08.09.2009 80+1 A Journey Around the World 80+1 A Journey Around the World is the title of this globe-spanning expedition underway until Sept 5, 2009.But this won’t entail any physical travel; the mode of transportation will be satellite hook-up and fiber optic cable, and the stops along the way will be 20 locations, each one of which stands for a theme of crucial importance to our future.
